HOW I GOT INTO DESIGN

DRAG THE CARD

DRAG THE CARD

DRAG THE CARD

A lot of designers claim to be user first. I’m not— at least not fully.

User needs are the starting point, not the finish line.

This doesn't mean ignoring users. While my process always starts with understanding their needs, I always look at the bigger picture. That means asking practical questions: What's the timeline? What can we realistically build right now? Which path delivers the most value for users and the business? It’s about tackling real problems within real-world constraints, not just designing in a vacuum.

Good design balances user needs with business and tech.

For me, the magic of design lies when we are able to grapple with the tough business targets and the nitty-gritty technical constraints just as much as user desires. It’s about connecting these dots—creating experiences users love while delivering powerful results that move the needle.

So, how does this play out day-to-day?

It means getting involved early to understand the strategy, using research and data to find the right problems to solve, and constantly checking in with PMs, engineers, and stakeholders on what’s feasible. It’s about building shared understanding, debating ideas respectfully, and leveraging everyone’s expertise. True collaboration means listening as much as I talk, and trusting that the best solutions often emerge from that shared effort, not from a lone genius designer.
